One of the hottest topics going around in the world is that of climate change. Rising Global Temperatures, rising sea levels, volcanic eruptions and many more such incidents that are giving a hint of repercussions of climate change.

The question here arises is that if our world leaders are prepared to tackle this problem. The answer to this question lies on various aspects such as taking responsibility, national interests and geopolitics.

The recent COP26 event that happened in Glasgow which primarily focused on the issues of climate change and its effects and sought for a collaborated consensus of the world powers to tackle this calamity.

The world leaders pledged for net carbon neutrality timeline of their respective countries and the various timelines for achieving the same.

The question here lies is that has there been any groundwork going on or this is just for the media. Recent reports of countries that are abiding by the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 shows that only India is set to achieve its goals well before time. The rich and developed countries are passing the onus on the developing world for the reduction of dependence on coal and shift to a renewable based economy without the induction of requisite funds and infrastructure.

Per capita carbon footprint of various countries shows us a clearer picture of the groundwork regarding the climate change targets promised by the countries.

These differences in opinions amongst the world leaders and putting geopolitical interests above a calamity such as climate change is proving to be detrimental to our planet as a whole. The world leaders are clearly not on a similar ground for tackling the climate change.

A collaborated consensus is required amongst the world leaders to make the planet a sustainable place to live in. Completing climate change goals and achieving net carbon neutrality along with nation development requires collaboration and a shared vision for the betterment of humanity.
